With Golden Globes over, only four months of awards shows left

Do people actually watch the self-absorbed celebrities accept awards that are voted on by an ultra-secretive board of high wizards in the media? Of course I am speaking of teh Golden Globe Awards. They aired Monday night on NBC and were the second or tenth (I think) in a string of about 37 awards shows that seem to start before Thanksgiving and last until May.

There are so many meaningless awards show but people attend and people supposedly watch because if they didn't, networks wouldn't air them. Think about all the awards shows... I've seen promos for the BIllboard Awards, The American Music Awards, The Teen Choice Awards, The People's Choice Awards, The S.A.G. Awards, The Golden Globes, The Grammys, The Tonys, The Oscars, The Espys, The Vibe Awards, The Country Music Awards, The Daytime Emmys and a handful of others that don't mean shit.

Why do people feel the need to stroke the egos of ungrateful celebrities? Why do advertisers piss away their money on awards shows that mean nothing? When it comes to the fifth tier of awards shows, do the sponsors sink to the level of Live Links tele-"dating" phone lines?

I guess this is just another reason why we as Americans are getting our asses handed to us by the likes of every other country in the world.

The only show like that I ever watch is the Oscars - and I can't even sit through the entire thing.
And weird? I find my mouth sore from smiling. Why the hell am I smiling? I'm not getting an award!
Crazy world.

If I wanted to listen to a celebrity or group of celebs stroke their own egos for three-plus hours, I would watch "War of the Worlds".
