How counter-productive for the conservative movement is it to have a venom-filled transvestite such as Ann Coulter standing up as their poster girl at meetings and conventions when she does nothing but slander and name-call the opposition? I remember hearing the phrase "compassionate conservatism" quite alot over the past seven years and the fact that their talking heads do nothing but toss about bigoted comments and continue to divide America does little more than prove just how truly "above us" the conservative leaders are.
Whether it's calling a democratic presidential candiate a faggot or blatantly stating that one of his campaign associates is covering for terrorists, the message is clear. As much as a few conservatives claim that liberals hate America, love the terrorists and want more taxes; they are simply and obviously wrong. If liberals hated America, they'd move and if they loved terrorists liberals wouldn't support our troops. Regardless of the cause our troops are fighting for, they are doing their job. It is no different than someone hired to change oil at the local Chevy dealership; the risks of the job were stated and the employee, in this case the troops, knew what could happen. They aren't in the best environment by a long shot but they are doing their job and I support them for doing their best in an area where the mission isn't the clearest, they aren't greeted as liberators and the risks far outweigh the benefits. I know guys in the military who have served in Iraq, are serving and will return to Iraq. They are my friends and I support them and wish the m the best.
Someone like Ann Coulter, an unfortunate poster child for conservatives, spreads her message of hate and intolerance and rather than being lambasted for her hate-filled messages, she gets more publicity to spread her message of division and hatred. That does nothing to unite, it only further divides. In her mind, it's better to have one opinion and squash any opposition than to have two differing opinions that can reach at least some common ground. Discourse, in her eyes, is anti-American. If that were true, we'd all be under British rule still today. Coulter isn't pro-conservativism; she's anti-liberal. I, for example, am pro-peace, not anti-war. I would much rather live in a world of peaceful resolution to conflicts that violent ones.

While I agree totally with your overall message, Coulter is a disaster in every way, I can't help but feel that you are being just as bigoted when you refer to Coulter as a transvestite. I identify as transgender and am in the process of going from male to female and I can say that most of us see the word transvestite as derogative.
By calling her a transvestite you are saying that all transgender people deserve to be discriminated against and that goes against everything else you said in an otherwise brilliant post. Thanks for letting me share my feelings on this.
If it is alright in Coulter's little bubble to degrade someone by calling them a faggot then anything to degrade her, too, is fair game. As far as anything else, transgenders are humans too and deserve recognition and acceptance as well, something I am afraid that Ann Coulter would not agree with.
Thanks, too, for your insight on this issue. Feel free to come back any time!
