Sometime life sends you a reality check

Yesterday, as I drove to work, my cell phone rang. It was from one of my good friends back in the old hometown (AKA SPAMTown USA). He informed me that he had just received a message that the mother of another of our friends had passed away the previous night. He is my age. His parents are younger than mine. His mom, though, had battled for a year with cancer -- a cancer that, in a best case scenario according to Nursing Gal, gives its victims a chance of making it no longer than six years. Teacher Guy's mom is in a better place and I know that he and his family and his friends will miss her deeply. They are an extremely close family which will help them in this time of need. My prayers go out to them in their time of mourning.
