As I drove home early this week, I was reminded of the sheer radness (thanks to Shannon for bringing that term back from its grave) of "Green Day". Yes, the venerable Bay Area punk rock outfit recently re-released a couple of their pre-popularity discs. "Kerplunk" and "1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours".

The last time I saw Green Day was amazing but it was also ages ago as they were touring in support of "Nimrod" which gained them popularity with the track "Good Riddance" which was featured in the retrospective which aired before the final episode of "Seinfeld". Today, the band has taken on enviromental causes by teaming with the Natural Resources Defense Council and most recently teaming with U2 to greet the New Orleans Saints back to their home stadium with a stirring cover of "The Saints Are Coming" and a hopeful video of what could have been in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Locally speaking, Drive 105 has begun to spin Tim Mahoney's newest tune, Piece of You. You can hear it on his MySpace page. The release party for his new disc, "Stay/Leave", is coming up February 9 at The Fine Line in Minneapolis. After scrolling through his website, I was eminded of how many songs of his I actually like and have heard.

Returning from their breakthrough 2004 album, "Good News For People Who Love Bad News" with not only a new disc but a new guitarist by the name of Johnny Marr (formerly of "The Smiths") Modest Mouse are on the path to another stint of music stardom.

"We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank" features the single already being heard on radio (and officially released this week) "Dashboard". To describe Dashboard as typical Modest Mouse would be a copout. It still features a few of the non-sensical lyrics typified by the indie band but it is "heavy" in the vein of "Float On" which gained the band nationwide notoriety. I can only hope that "We Were Dead..." contains the same formula of experimental sounds and catchy, upbeat melodies that spelled success just a couple years ago.

"We Were Dead..." is due out in early Spring, 2007.

Have a fun-filled weekend. I know I will as we peruse furniture offerings to land a coveted piece of furniture for my yet-to-be-completed "blue room". It will soon be mine!

As for music I *don't* like, check back for the forseeable future and see what pops up. Music is just one of my many passions but probably my most passionate passion.

I am originally from NEw Orleans. I was proud to have Green Day and U2 in New Orleans to re open the Superdome. As a local, you have to know what their mere appearance meant to the city and the fans.

I want to thank them personally!
