I always feel the need to explain things that haven't even been questioned... yet. So, in an effort to beat someone else to the punch, I feel the need to enlighten some about who I am and why I am the way I am.
I consider myself to be straddling two generations. Gen-X'ers gained all the notoriety because they were and maybe still are the "slacker generation". They began the dot-com revolution and grew up in the decade of excess (80s) and prospered in the economic boom of the 90s.
Then there is my generation, Generation-Y. Gen-Y, though is viewed by some as a generation of cynics. They know full-well that they probably won't have social security funds to rely on when retirement comes calling if they are even able to retire somewhat comfortably. Gen-Y looks back at the smash and grab mantra of Gen-Xers and is utterly pissed off that they were so irresponsible and may very well be living off money from their parents because they had no plan beyond pissing away the money of investors who thought a business with no business plan was a good idea.
Gen-Y meandered through college as they saw the world crashing outside their windows. The hope and promise of America's tech-craze crashed and nearly everything that survived was outsourced to India. They graduated college into a depressed economy and a war that had been started for no other reason than retaliation. Gen-Y asks alot of questions and trusts few, maybe even going as far as to trust nobody. They don't let their overwhelming cynicism get in the way of life, though.
Generation-Y is full of hard workers who struggle day to day in a world where the only way to get ahead or break even is to work and work harder than everyone else around them. They have a vision for making things better and doing things better.
Life, though, is where Generation-Y excels. They have beaten the odds to become homeowners. Their cynicism about social security has forced them to fend for themselves and they are now investors who hope each day that their investments grow so they can retire and tour the country in their Hover-Winnebago with their spouse and Robo-Puppy. They keep up to date of technological advancements and are the most in-touch generation when it comes to the plethora of communication mediums they have access to.
Generation-Y, while smaller in numbers than those attention whores known as baby boomers, will rule this pathetic country one day. Gen-Y will conquer distant stars and planets with our advanced cell phone technology. Or maybe we'll be a bunch of self-absorbed douchebags just like those government funded baby boomers. Only time will tell.

Try not to judge where you haven't been yet. The generations before you didn't asked to be born either. Each has its' advantages and disadvantages. Being young, you see the people older than you with more stuff. Well, when I was your age that's what I saw too. Your turn will come, and it sounds like you've put more thought into it than most people your age-so you'll do just fine. I have two sons in their 20s-One sees it, the other hopefully will soon!
There are so mnay stereotypical generalities in your post it is hard to see how you will ever grow up. Try and see the gray once in a ahile, life isn't all black and white.
Fair enough anonymous but get back to me when you learn to compile a sentence that isn't ridden with typos. After all, aren't stereotypes the very thing that have split generations for many decades? I am merely trying to expose them.
