Hillary Clinton is trying desperately to keep her name in the news. Her latest ploy, albeit a good one, is to put a cap on the number of American troops deployed to Iraq. She explained that if she knew then (when congress approved the use of force in Iraq) what she knows now she never would have supported the war in Iraq.
While Hillary Clinton once again made no hints as to her intentions of running for President in 2008, she also skipped the topic of Illinois Senator Barack Obama's intentions to explore a run for the office of President with his announcement yesterday.
The biggest thing that Obama has going for him is that he has never supported the war in Iraq. While what he says in public appearances in eloquent and firm, his stance on Iraq may hurt his chances with moderates. I also have my doubts as to how well a relative rookie to national politics will fare in primaries. His race, not that it should be an issue, will definitely be a point of contention in southern states, which, like it or not, still have a definite prejudice against anyone who isn't white.
Obama has a legitimate chance within his own party but if he would happen to be nominated by the Democratic party in 2008, he would face a never-ending barrage of racial attacks from conservatives both in politics and in the media. The attacks on the background of his family, ancestry and his middle name of Hussein will be fodder even in the primaries as the conservatives do their best to discredit the most passionate politician and speaker since John F. Kennedy.
And in local barack Obama news, the local FOX owned and operated affiliate, KMSP has had quite the stir over an apparent mix-up during their Saturday evening newscast when a story about a sex offender ran complete with graphics and the video clip played was that of an Obama support rally. The aftermath of the stinkfest continues here. If it happens once, likely a mistake. If it happens repeatedly, something is afoot.

I will vote for him only if he promises never to be photographed in his panties again. Did you see that? Who okayed that one?
Since Obama wants to ban firearms I can't vote for him.
As long as gun control is a major plank in the Democratic party platform, they are going to have a tough time getting elected.
Even as desperate as we are for leadership, this simply isn't Obama's time. He would be eaten alive in the campaign, and his image possibly forever sullied.
He would be a very useful force in a leadership position within the DP. Screamin' Howie is about as much good as tits on a boor hog!!
And, I wasn't aware of Barack wanting to ban guns, but if what Hammer says is indeed true....he's already lost my vote. There's never been a better time for citizens to be armed, than since the Revolutionary War. Banning guns would shoot him out of the saddle before he even got going in a campaign, anyway. There's a lot more stupid things to base a platform on, but I can't think of any right off hand.
In addition to gun ownership to prevent criminal intrusion upon our property, the American people should think about demanding elimination of federal taxes to prevent governmental intrusion upon our ability to do with the fruits of our labor as we see fit.
Somehow, I don't see that coming from Obama. Nonetheless, I'd like to see him trounce "the Hill" (even though her and I graduated from the same high school).
Anyone have an opinion as to the percentage change Obama has of winning the primary?
If he intends to ban firearms in their entirety then that will definitely be a sticking point with alot of Americans, if he intends to ban assault weapons which, in my mind, serve no purpose other than shooting someone up like swiss cheese, then maybe he has a fighting chance but how many people actually own or have access to an automatic rifle?
i think political 'experience' is overrated. how much time do you have to spend in politics to gain experience? he will have already served 3 years or so in the senate- and that is more than enough time to learn what he needs to know. obama is a man of integrity- and the executive branch needs that. we need a diplomat in the oval office to repair the damage done and to put the executive branch back within its borders. obama may be the one able to do that.
It's not that he won't have sufficient experience in the eyes of voters but his relatively short time in public office will be fodder for the Rushes and Hannitys of the world who will call him a black kid who wants to niggerize the country. Sorry to use that word but that's how they roll.
If we're going black, i want president palmer...and not the current one....
I stay out of politic debates. I got enough problems. ;)
I like Obama...and I will vote for him. I hope he runs. I won't vote for Hilary..no way, no how. I've never liked her...she seems really cold to me and there is just something about her.....
He and Hillary will duke it out for the Democratic nomination. They even might forge an alliance as P & V.P.(doubtful). McClain will waltz into the job because of the Dems discord.
