Apparently, Ikea, flush with ways to save a buck, wants to charge shoppers the princely sum of a nickel if they wish to have a bag with their purchase. Of course, what else would one expect from a giant box selling crap that is of lower quality and higher price than the average Wal-Mark or K-Mart?
Well, you blue boxed bastard off of Interstate 494 in Bloomington, Minnesota across the street from the bastard of all malls, Mall of America, I don't need your damn 5 cent plastic bag, or any bag for that matter. Damn, Americans are wasteful slow-minded and wasteful (yes, twice). If it takes ultra-cheap Ikea to start conserving, of all things, plastic -- so be it.

IKEA is actually doing that to promote recycling.
I think it's a small step, but Americans use far too many plastic bags when they SHOULD be recycling them, or using canvas.
I have children and would like to see the world in better shape for them than the forecasted bleak future.
I was going to say how sad this was of Ikea, but after reading Alicia's post I have a different view. I think that they are trying to force recylcing which is good. At first I thought they were just trying to make more money.
IKEA will donate the income from the 5 cent plastic bag to an enviroment organization so I don't think you are very wrong to accuse them of doing it for profit.
I think it's a very good thing to charge for plastic bags and hope other will follow.
Take it as sarcasm or serious from me when I post something like this. I like to try to take both sides of an argument in a couple paragraphs but overall my feeling is that Americans are wasteful. Sure, I only throw out two small bags of trash and recycle almost as much each week but I think I am the exception, not the norm. Take Wal-Mart for example, they put about three items per bag. That, my friends, is wasteful.
around here they always charge you for plastic bags, which is fine by me. They've been doing it for so many years, I don't really think about it anymore. Problems arise when the buggars only give you one, no matter how much stuff you get. ARGH!
Charging for plastic bags? Good Lord...
Where do I sign the petition?
That's crazy
I think if we were charged for plastic bags, I'd be pissed at first but, just like $2+/gallon gas, I'd sadly get used to it (although the bags are far less costly than gas -- $2.50 -- WTF?!)
Gas prices have gone up $.25/gal in two weeks! What the shizz?! ;)
Freakin Halliburton.
