Chicken's ON! In our efforts to usher spring in before it's actually ready, the time change has coerced me into dragging the old gas grill out of storage for an early-year run. Mesquite chicken tonight. Yum.
That brings me to my second brief thought. I am going to build (or purchase) a smoker. We stumbled upon one Saturday at Lowe's when we were supposed to be pricing tile for the bathroom but I got distracted by the pretty grills. I will not do one that uses propane or electricity. It's wood chips or nothing at this point. Plus I know the secret, according to a strategically aired Food Network show, that indirect heat is the key. The search is on...

I married a smoker.
Somehow I don't think we're referring to the same kind.
;)
I take it that you have yet to find a good (if any) BBQ joint in Minnesota, huh?...or for that matter, are there any in the midwest at all? (Chicago, I think, would be the closest).
Other than my buddy's BBQ joint back in Austin, I havent found anything spectacular. There's a couple in Rochester which I have experienced and one in Eden Prairie (Baker's Ribs) which I hear is a huge hit with the suburbanites but I've gotta find the time to get there so plan B is build my own.
Austin, MN, I take it? What's the name of it? Woah...a real live BBQ joint..I'd rather take a chance on that one than anything in Eden Prairie!...Wasn't there a BBQ joint in St. Paul at one time? other than the BBQ chains..is Dave's BBQ still around?
It's Piggy Blues BBQ and it's on north Main Street. If you would get the chance, give it a shot -- only sticking point is that it's closed Sundays
And Famous Dave's is still around and still adding locations though I am done with their sauce -- I prefer Stubb's for store bought sauce.
