As it seems more and more definite that my good friend Army Guy will likely be returning to Iraq for a second tour of duty, why don't we stop bitching back and forth about what did or didn't lead us into the Iraqi occupation to begin with.
Maybe our glorious leaders had bad intelligence or maybe they simply made up intelligence to justify the war. Whatever the cause of it truly is, maybe we can instead focus on the cost of the war.
A recent calculation states that the war's total cost may run over the $1 Trillion amount. Remember that the war is costing a whopping $200 million each and every day. The economic factor is rarely if even contemplated when debating whether or not to go to war. Remember, too, that the $1 trillion amount is the lower end, $2 trillion is the upper end of the war's cost.
The biggest question is who will pay for this additional $1-2 trillion in debt? For a country already saddled with a nearly $6 trillion national debt, somebody is financing the U.S.A. who seems to be spending like a credit card addict. It's not the war that could tear the country apart and has already to a certain degree but the debt incurred form the war that could break our country and future generations. After all, who wants to do business with a bankrupt entity?

Your grandkids will still be picking up the tab unless we hand Iraq a bill for what we did to/for them. Free oil won't work either-that will go thru Shell, BP, etc. so we pay twice!
It's just a wee bit more expensive than they said it would be when the whole war started ... both in terms of monetary cost and lives.
A scary thought indeed. It's our kids who will be paying the price as they will for so many other things too.
Those figures are beyond my comprehension.
The cost in terms of lives lost - that too is incomprehensible.
And for what?
Wow..these figures are way to mind deboggling for me...I'm glad there are people out there like you that can handle it for people like me...when every I write an e-mail to someone I always say think shallow...there is really no deep meaning behind it...I'm such a simple girl...
While the lives lost on both sides (we're all humans even with our societal differences) should stand front and center, the financial burden must also be considered. Initially, the funds were allocated as if this country is flush with cash, hen the lives began to be lost and now the financial aspect is again gaining attention and being debated. It seems that things went in the wrong cycle.
